Job Description
Dispatcher is responsible for taking emergency and non-emergency calls from the public and assigning appropriate personnel to respond to call for service.

1. Maintain constant countywide radio communications between communications center and mobile emergency units in the field. Maintain real time knowledge of location of emergency units in the field. Maintain communication links with other agencies.
2. Process incident data, assigning incident data to the proper agency for processing/investigation. Update data in the computer.
3. Process telephone communication and page out appropriate Emergency Personnel to respond to reported emergencies.
4. Initiate & update a variety of files such as warrants, warrant lists, hot files and communications data.
5. Perform a variety of State Database inquiries such as vehicle registration, Driver’s License, criminal history, gun permits, etc.
6. Assist the public in the Sheriff’s Office lobby on nights, weekends and when the records office is closed.
7. Responsible for exterior security doors of the Law Enforcement Center and communications room.
8. Assist Communications Specialist with routine equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, equipment testing and inventory.
9. Assist with training other staff; provide technical assistance to other staff/supervisors.
10. Exercise rational judgment.
11. Attend training classes, workshops or seminars to learn procedures and techniques.
12. Perform other related work as assigned or as it becomes apparent in carrying out responsibilities.
13. Testify in court to present evidence and/or explain arrests/facts.
14. Assist all Sheriff’s Office staff as needed.
15. Employee's responsibility is to be consistent with county employee handbook, county-wide safety rules, department safety rules, and specific job training.
16. Log daily activities, complete required reports, maintain accurate digital record of all communications.
17. Maintain confidentiality of non-public information and abide by Minnesota’s Data Practice Laws.

1. Knowledge and ability to determine the difference between civil and criminal activity.
2. Ability to keep accurate records.

4. Ability to use computer, radio, telecommunications and type a minimum of 40 WPM.
5. Ability to deal effectively and professionally in stressful situations.
6. Ability to work independent of direct supervision.
7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, the general public, other law enforcement, and criminal justice agency personnel.
8. Ability to perform assigned duties and tasks in an effective, efficient, and safe manner.
9. Ability to use computer, recorder, camera equipment and electronic equipment.
 1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Dispatch and/or law enforcement experience preferred.
3. Knowledge and ability to operate standard Windows operating systems and programs including Microsoft Office and Excel.
4. CIS Records Management System & ARMER experience preferred.

1. Ability to communicate effectively with the public
2. Ability to understand written/oral directions and instructions.
3. Ability to orally report facts clearly, logically, accurately and objectively.
4. Ability to listen carefully & accurately and repeat information received accurately.
 Physical Requirements:
1. Must maintain mental and emotional fitness.
2. Ability to perform tasks involving prolonged sitting and/or standing.
3. Ability to work indoors, day or night, rotating shifts any day of the year.

1. Must pass a physical exam.
2. Must pass a psychological exam.
3. Must pass extensive background check
