Full Job Description

A Machine Operator I is responsible for cutting / manufacturing various types of parts while adhering to company and customer drawings, specifications, or other forms of instruction on the equipment they are hired for. operating overhead hoists or cranes, using hand tools appropriate for the job, and reading and interpreting blueprints.


  • Reads computer job orders, job specifications and blueprints to determine machine adjustments and material requirements
  • Ensures all equipment is properly set-up and used in a safe manner and that all safety devices are in use.
  • Sets stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, or template
  • Positions workpiece against stops or aligns layout marks with die or blade
  • Pushes button or depresses pedal to activate machine
  • Observes machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunction
  • Measures workpiece dimensions with a caliper, tape measure, or protractor to determine accuracy of machine operation
  • Removes burrs, sharp edges, or scale from workpiece
  • Performs minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or workpieces
  • Identify issues and bring them to supervisors’ attention.
  • Responsible for identifying and moving of all finished products to the proper location within the shop operating a forklift, if trained.
  • Ability to learn all basic machines which include: shear, punch, piranha
  • Knows designated work center with 100% proficiency



  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 45 lbs. without assistance.
  • Ability to work from various squatting, kneeling, or bending positions.
  • Ability to work with arms above head.
  • Ability to work from crawling or lying positions.
  • Ability to safely use hand, air, pneumatic, and power tools, and machinery.
  • Ability to understand and operate all safety equipment in the area.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and verbally communicate simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English as required.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and layout and other written or verbal instructions presented in English as required.
  • Ability to use linear and other measuring devices.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics.


Certification/ Licensure:

None Required.


40 Hours per week, work overtime as needed.


  • PPE: the company provides Personal Protective Equipment as required by OSHA, including hearing, eye.
  • Working with sharp materials.
  • Heavy workloads with high noise levels (Up to and over 85 decibels).
  • Fumes and exposure to chemicals.

Endure heat and cold conditions in the shop. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions.
