Job Description
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: 
High School diploma or G.E.D. and two years equipment operation or related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
 Incumbents in this class typically require:  Minnesota Class A Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsement and no restrictions.
The Parks Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing manual labor by maintaining and repairing County park infrastructure. Responsibilities may include operating light equipment for the maintenance of county property; and performing manual labor to maintain parks and facilities along with operating heavy equipment to remove snow and ice from public roads.
Job Responsibilities:
Operates light equipment, including commercial mowers/zero turn, compact tractors, skid loaders, trimmers, chainsaws, snowmobile, utility vehicles, power tools and truck/trailer combinations to maintain park facilities and grounds or transport materials/equipment to assigned locations.
Performs manual labor to maintain parks to include cleaning and stocking restrooms, shelters, shops and other assigned areas; trimming, garbage removal/collection, painting, staining, sealing, shoveling, repairing, vandalism repair, installing, and/or removing assigned structures, signage or equipment; tree/chainsaw work, trail work, landscaping, carpentry, plumbing, installation/removal of swimming buoys; and cutting and splitting firewood.
Performs routine vehicle, equipment or facility maintenance operations, to include washing vehicles, changing oil, changing/sharpening mower blades, belt replacement, parts replacement, mechanical work, maintaining fluid levels, sharpening chainsaw chains, posting reservation signs, spraying chemicals, and performing snow removal and salting duties.
Operates heavy equipment including plows, heavy trucks and motor graders for the Highway Department to remove snow and ice from gravel and paved public roadways.
Occasionally supervises part time help and Sentence To Serve crew members.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

 LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
Incumbents in this class typically require:
  • Valid Minnesota Class A Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsement and no restrictions is preferred. 
  • Incumbents without a valid Minnesota Class A Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsement and no restrictions, must complete the written test to obtain the Class A Driver’s License within 3 months from date of hire and obtain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months from the date of hire.

Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be exposed to hazardous physical conditions, such as, mechanical parts, electrical currents, and vibrations; hazardous materials, such as chemicals, blood, and other bodily fluids; extreme temperatures; and intense noise.
