Job Description:

Facilitate process development and improvement for glass component production using established continuous improvement methods and tools.  Primary goals: to achieve rapid new process development, yield improvement, daily throughput, and productivity/efficiency.  Work within ISO system to develop work instructions and travelers and process checks to ensure ongoing quality.  Work improvements including raw material selection, cost reduction, glass processing, yields, cycle time reductions, part and machine set ups, machining, lapping, polishing, cleaning, and final inspection.

  • 2 to 4 Year Engineering or technical degree (or equivalent)

Further Description of Job Duties:
  • Create solutions to complex technical problems in manufacturing cell of production
  • Create, modify, and test process variations for new and existing products.
  • Inspect products and processes for flaws and identify areas for improvement.
  • Prepare and conduct experiments and collect data; calculate or record results during experiments.
  • Assist in process design, development, and production; design fixtures and set up equipment.
  • Utilize computer-aided process development tools as needed during improvement phase, to include statistical analysis like SPC chart, run charts, Cpk analysis, Value Stream Maps.
  • Plan the manufacturing process; estimate project costs and specify materials to be used.
  • Perform audits of production and process capability; monitor process using floor metrics.
  • Design, develop, test, and implement new manufacturing processes to increase capability and capacity.
  • Research new processes and capabilities.
  • Ensure all product is properly inspected and meets all requirements prior to delivery to QC.
  • Preparing reports, flow diagrams and charts to measure and assess manufacturing productivity.
  • Managing the cost and time constraints of projects.
  • Selecting, managing and working with sub-contractors.
  • Working closely with equipment operators to monitor and improve the efficiency, output and safety of operations within the plant.
  • Ensuring the process works at the optimum level, at the right rate and quality.
  • Operating equipment as needed to produce products.
  • Finding solutions to process problems using tools like an 8D, TPS, 5 Whys, Fishbone analysis, et al.
  • Making observations, taking measurements, collecting & interpreting data, and making decisions with other team members.
  • Reviewing existing data (also lab analysis) to see if more research and information need to be collated.
  • Assists others in setting up, repairing, and maintaining production equipment to minimize downtime.
