Supervisors play a critical role in shaping a new employee's first experiences in the workplace. While many organizations provide orientation and required safety information, supervisors are often responsible for reinforcing expectations, providing coaching, observing work practices, and ensuring employees understand how to perform their jobs safely.
This practical two-hour course provides supervisors and frontline leaders with tools and strategies to strengthen their role in the onboarding process. Participants will explore how to communicate expectations, support learning, verify understanding, coach employees, and create an environment where new workers feel comfortable asking questions and raising concerns.
This course moves beyond simply checking boxes and focuses on helping supervisors create onboarding experiences that improve engagement, build confidence, and support safe work behaviors.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the supervisor's role and responsibilities during the safety onboarding process.
- Identify factors that may impact a new employee's understanding, engagement, and ability to work safely.
- Explain effective communication and coaching strategies that support employee learning and retention.
- Demonstrate methods for reinforcing expectations, observing work practices, and validating employee understanding.
- Evaluate strategies that help create a supportive onboarding experience and strengthen long-term safety culture.
